I have missed writing to you and I’m having a flare up of carpal tunnel and I’m using my wrist time to create the content for the Comfort Cafe and Life Spa and so this is a quick hello and love and reminder to check in with yourself kind of newsletter.

The Not Quite So Daily Dollop
WHAT IS MY BODY TRYING TO TELL ME TODAY?
I’m asking myself this all week and stopping freqeuntly to rest and stretch. Want to join me?
Does your body want to dance the tango? Sleep for a month? Eat carrots? You know, this may be earth-shattering news but you are not simply a giant head floating through space. You actually have a body! Look down, yup, there it is.
You are in a body for a reason. A friend who is able to talk to people who are dead (that’s another story) reported to me once that what we miss the most is not being able to touch those we love.
Celebrate why you love having a body TODAY.
Today’s Intention: Noticing I have a body and it has something to say.
Choose Your Life Mondays
Join me at the blog and declare an intention for the week – the loving community aspect and taking the time to type it out is a wonderful way to clarify and focus for the week!
Simply go here and then click on JOIN THE CONVERSATION and scroll down to the comment box. Write your intention or awareness for the week.
Easy peasy.
Excerpt from Virtual Retreat
The Virtual Retreat was just magnificent. The speakers were gorgeous and built on what the previous speakers had said – without knowing it! I will be sharing bits of the retreat with you and here is one that fits so much with self-trust (the theme of this month at the Comfort Cafe) and was personally so deeply comforting to me.
From Geneen Roth’s (http://www.geneenroth.com) session
Geneen: When I ask people what do you really want to eat, and we’ll keep it on the food level right now, and they come up with ‘I want a chocolate cake’ — my sense is that they don’t really want a chocolate cake; they want what they believe they’re not supposed to have. When you tell yourself you can’t have it, you end up wanting it even if you don’t want it because you want it because you’re not supposed to have it. You want it because there’s some part of you telling you that you’re not allowed to have it, and that is not a kind message to say to ourselves.
Jen: It’s as if true desire can recalibrate us to self-trust.
Geneen: Yes. Because I think we all truly want to feel well, feel nourished and vibrant; we want to feel we’re living the life we know we could be living. We want to fill that promise of being alive that each of us sense. For all of us, it’s original and unique; what I feel is possible for me in my life or what I have to do in my life is very different from what you feel, my husband feels or my best friend feels. And yet, each of us is aware of this sense of what our lives would be like if we could fully be ourselves.
And I think that’s what we want when you scratch everything away; that’s exactly what we want. Does eating an entire chocolate cake match that? So many of us have given up on the deepest longing, and so we’ll go for the chocolate cake because at least it’s there and accessible and we can have it. We’ve given up on the deeper longings, so we’ll go for what we can have.
At least with the issue of food, so much of the suffering is when people eat emotionally it’s a way to comfort themselves and to keep themselves from having what they really, really want. They can use food as the doorway there. The fact that they’re eating emotionally in that moment, we can use that to find out what’s really going on.
Jen: That longing to really be who you are is still there.
Geneen: Yes.
Jen: That is so much the theme of this virtual retreat and the comfort cafe, to be able to rest there that I can have what I want on the deepest level — even if I don’t believe it myself. That longing and the ability, the truth that I am who I want to be is somewhere in there right now.
Geneen: Yes.
Jen: That is calm, confidence, and contentment. I think we all carry that with us.
Geneen: I think that’s a constant; we’re all trying to get to that, trying to *potentialize that inside ourselves. I don’t think we ever forget that.
Jen: Ahh… Thank you Geneen!

Comfort Resources
I’m reading about self-trust this month in preparation for the Comfort Cafe and here are some books I’m loving as I muse and write.
The Heroine’s Journey by Maureen Murdock
Maureen will be my podcast guest in February. Excerpts will be avaiable to everone and the whole thing at the Cafe. This classic is so worth re-reading!
Your Truest Self by Janice Lundy
Janice will be my podcast guest in March. This is a treasure of a book.
The Subtle Body by Cyndi Dale
If you practice or teach yoga, massge, healing, therapy or coaching, you want this book. It is the best I have ever seen on subtle energies i.e. what cannot be seen with the naked eye. Amazing.
Comfort Wishes
You can handle it
You have always handled it
You will always handle it
You are the handle and the cup, and your cup really does overflow
Surely the goodness and mercy others have shown you
can be met today
by your own mercy
your own breath in your precious body
Because you are a shining reliable source of wisdom and goodness:
Listen
Because you are able to have what you most deeply want:
Love
Because you can be with your longing without shattering:
Trust
Because you are, right now, more than good enough
