I’ve been doing Choose Your Life Monday posts for awhile now. I like spending a bit of time on Sundays thinking about how I want to choose my life in the next week and discussing that with you.
Over the course of Choose Your Life Mondays, I’ve blogged about being aware of various patterns, I’ve shared Life Organizer questions, and today, I’m in the mood to do something a bit different.
It’s my birthday.
47. Forty-seven. That’s four decades and then you throw in seven odd years, add a little sale, and bake until tender.
What’s that in dog years?
That’s okay. Really. Don’t do the math. Step away from the calculator.
On my birthday, I always imagine I will reflect on the past year – all the goodness and love, and what I’d like to let go of and forgive myself and others for- and then I’ll make a bright and shiny plan of what I want to create in my new year.
But you know what?
I never actually do that.
Because the part of me that is still about eight years old rule my birthdays.
And that eight year old? She likes to do what she wants to do.
Which will include writing, talking on the phone, kissing Bob, eating lobster and drinking champagne, hugging my daughter, walking in the woods with the doodle dogs, certainly some truly yummy dessert… you know what?
My birthday doesn’t feel very different than most of my days.
Except the lobster and champagne part.
And that, my dear friend, is a very good thing.
What about your day today is as sparkly and precious as a one of kind birth day?
I bet a lot.

Happy, happy birthday, dearest Jen! May your 8-year-old self, and all your other selves too, have the most wonderful day ever. And may this new year bring you an infinite flow of joy, love, play, creative fulfillment, peace and blessing.
I’m so grateful you were born, 47 years ago today.
Much love and a soft birthday hug to you,
Hiro

Happy Birthday, Jennifer! Thanks for all you do, and for being you. I hope you have a fantastic day, and that you had a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

Wishing you a very happy birthday! I can’t believe how much you’ve accomplished in your 47 years.
Maybe an inner 8 year old is the secret to staying as young at heart as you are. (You’re also younger in dog years than I — step away from the calculator.)
Have a glorious day, scratch, week. (Milk the celebration for as long as you can.)
No chocolate with that lobstah & champagne?
Love,
Mahala

What a delightful read and an inspiration for my 46th on December 8.
I too greet my birthday with the exuberance & abandon of an 8 year old. After Christmas, it’s my favorite celebration of the year. Though I have to admit, it never occurred to me to have lobster.
Glad to hear that you’re living it up for YOU. Blessings on your new year to come!
Kelly

Happy Birthday Jen! I’ll be 47 on my next birthday too, which I marvel at because 47 has always been my favorite number for exaggeration. This weekend I met a woman who was 98, walking around spry and keen and delighted. I am inspired. Joy to you, have a wonderful day and year. Ingrid

Happy Birthday Jen!
This blog was shared with me by Kelly Salasin, thank you Kelly.
Mondays are not always my best days, but today is my birthday too!
I share my birthday with my sister Gwen, she was born 3 years ahead of me. I was born during her 3rd birthday party (at the hospital of course, not on the gift table – though that would have been ironic). Birthdays to me have always been a day of sharing, even in these years, I am 36 today and Gwen is 39. To me it is luck that gave us the same birthday, though some would say , if you know my mother, it was her planning. I am so thankful for that gift, for being able to share this day with my sister, to be able to celebrate with her, my family, our friends. Tonight , thanks to your suggestion, might be a night for lobster. I have already had my birthday walk with the dogs, my birthday coffee with my husband, my exchange of gifts with my sister and the birthday wishes from friends. This has made it a very special Monday birthday. I will save some of this great birthday energy to apply to my next Monday…..
Wishing you a wonderful day, with good friends and warm drawn butter for your lobster.

Happy birthday and thanks for the post! I sent it along to my mother, who is also celebrating a very special birthday.
Incidentally, we always have lobster on her day. How could a woman who lives on the ocean in Gloucester, MA not have such a delicacy?;-)
