What if I wrote a book about Freedom from Self-Improvement?
After talking to Keri Smith last week – every month I invite a wise person to have a conversation with us at the Comfort Cafe – I started to dream of a Keri-style book about getting free from this insidious idea there is something to be fixed about you.
It makes my heart beat fast to think about creating something as raw, as honest, as wildly real as Keri does.
You do know her work and her blog, right?
If not, hop on over there and be delighted – but first, here’ s a snippet of our conversation. What Keri said in this part of the Comfort Cafe Wisdomcast blew me away – I want to write more, think more, about how you and I can create from that place of truth.

Loved this, and perfect to hear this early morning! Each time I hear things like this, I get some kind of affirmation that everyone is in the same creative boat. That everyone, even people who are already known out there….started somewhere, in a place where they felt scared, intimidated, unworthy, and wondered if anyone would care about what they had to say!
BUT, once you realize that you are surrounded by people who have done it, who still feel that way sometimes, it is so comforting, and encouraging.
Anyone else feel that way???
Can’t wait to start my writing for today!
Thanks Keri and Jen!

Jen, If you wrote a book that explored the theme of freedom from self improvement, it would help unleash the natural goodness, contentment and creativity in everyone blessed to read it. Words like friendly, delicious, liberating, and gorgeous come to mind… Write it! It’s already in you.

I LOVE that you said you hate the term “branding.” As a writer building a platform (sigh), that term also makes me crazy. I don’t want to be a “brand,” I want to be a writer! I want to be creative, not branded like a herd of cattle.
