If you find yourself reading a book for pleasure that you’re not actually enjoying, ditch it. Life is too short to spend time reading something you don’t like. There are far more wonderful books out there than you’ll ever be able to read, so why waste time on a dud?
On the other hand, be aware that the pace of life and reading lots of material on the web can make more challenging books seem too difficult to read. I started reading Les Miserables last week and found myself getting impatient with Victor Hugo’s flights of language.
That scared me a little bit.
I don’t want to lose my ability to read in ways that make me think even if it isn’t always fun and I don’t want to be a slave to books that don’t nourish me.
Reading can fufill so many functions in our lives — from informational to comfort to expanding our minds and hearts.
Today’s Intention: Noticing how reading nourishes me and how it challenges me, and giving myself a little bit of both.

Two weeks from now I’ll be leading two transformational retreats at Kripalu, designed to help you love yourself into life.
Read more and come join me, or tell a friend. I’d be so grateful.
