A sometimes Wednesday happening in which I dissolve posting flummoxia by posting a a jambalaya, a comfort basket, a wiry fankle (a Scottish word that means a tangle or a state of confusion), a bit of this and tad of that.
Wiry Fankle One
Last month at the Comfort Cafe we swam deep into Inspiration and wove crowns of wacky wonder to wear while creating whatever the hell we wanted.
Our Wisdomcast guest (this is where we invite someone in for a live chat and ask questions and such) was the extra-inspiring Jill Badonsky.
Here’s a tidbit from the hour long call.
(Like what you hear? Why not join us at the Cafe? This month we’ll be talking to Waverly Fitzgerald about time, rhythms and daily rituals.)
Wiry Fankle Two
Author Unknown
In India, the Spirit of the Plague
passed an old man sitting under a
tree.
Old Man: Where are you going?
Spirit: To Benares, to kill one
hundred people.
Later, the old man heard that in
Benares ten thousand had died.
Then the spirit of the Plague
passed again on it’s return journey.
Old Man: You lied. You said you
would kill one hundred.
Spirit: I killed one hundred.
FEAR killed the rest.
I’m so aware of how fear tries to rule me so many times a day, mostly by scattering my energies and making me feel like one big flobby wobble who can’t accomplish anything.
I see this in many of my self-employed creative friends, too.
I’m giving this a lot of thought and attention – talking to my fears, being amazed by how just when I think I’ve come to the end of what I can do, I realize that’s fear trying to keep me safe again. Fascinating!
Wiry Fankle Three
Three friends have new books out in the last few weeks and each one are truly great. Truly. Great.
The Little Book of Meaning by Laura Berman Fortgang Got a friend who lost her job, is ill, or a young person questioning life – or maybe you are? This book will soothe and inspire you.
Find Your Great Work by Michael Bungay Stainer For every single person who wants more from their work.
Escape from Cubicle Nation by Pam Slim Perfect for anybody wanting to leave their straight job; also great for college graduates. and for people who are getting their solo biz off the ground.
That’s me for this Wednesday – love to hear your Wiry Fankles.

Somebody sent me the second Wiry Fankle* in response to the fact that I’ve been going through really, really hard times the last few weeks (well, months). Very appropriate!
*I have the kind of brain that likes to move letters and words around in exciting ways if it thinks it can do a better job. Every single time I read Wiry Fankle it wants to read “Firy Wankle.”
Probably best not to ask. I blame the synaesthesia.

omg. Wiry Fankle (and btw, LOVE that name!) # 2 is a hot topic with me lately. Glad to know others are experiencing the same challenges that I am with it. I continue to pause when I find myself reacting or letting others’ projected fears land on me. Yuck! I mention some of this in my latest blog, and discuss how difficult it is to have to acknowledge these fears, wherever they come from, and then decide how to proceed on your journey from there….what to do with the “nugget” inside the fear? Not an easy task.
I find that the more I voice my fears somehow, the more I am able to find my next turn in the road…

I’ve been speaking to my fears rather sternly. Perhaps I am unconsciously going through the 3As process — Awareness, Acceptance and Action!
I’m aware, I accept and I am moving on and leaving a few of them in the dust. Dust vs. fairy dust that is.
Cheers!
